1988: Second merger

In 1988, Süddeutsche Zucker AG merged with Ochsenfurt-based Zuckerfabrik Franken GmbH to form Südzucker AG Mannheim/Ochsenfurt with headquarters in Mannheim. This fusion permanently strengthened southern Germany's sugar industry. The Ochsenfurt and Zeil facilities, built in 1951 and 1960 respectively, as well as the long-established factories in Warburg and Wabern, also became part of the new company.
