Sugar statistics for 2007/08

Of the total sugar consumed by humans as food in 2007/08, 18.4 percent was in the form of household sugar. Peak shipments occurred during the preserving season, primarily in May and July, and the baking season at the end of the year. Current per person consumption of household sugar is about 6.3 kg a year. Consumption of processed goods accounts for 81.6 percent of domestic sugar shipments (soft drinks, sweets, baked goods, etc.). Annual consumption per person in Germany is 34.3 kg of sugar.
